If you are reading this article because you did an online hunt on “public records” then the following information will hopefully be of value to you.
Looking for someone’s criminal background used to be exceedingly hard. If you were to search manually, that is by traveling to the court house yourself, you would encounter several problems and it would take you more than just a few hours. Most county court houses have two court systems, state and superior. In a manual search you’d have to search both record rooms. But what if the person in whom you are interested committed a crime, but just not in your county. You’re out of luck.
There’s another option that’s obtainable on the net for free. Most counties maintain a web site that tells you who is currently in the county jail. Google the site, “County Jail Incarceration Report” should work, but fill put in the name of your county in the search. You will then be able to discover if the person you are concerned about is in the county jail. Unfortunately if the individual you’re interested in isn’t in jail at this time you won’t discover anything new.
Another search you can do for free is the sex offender search. Most counties maintain a web site (again, Google it) that will quickly find convicted sex offenders living at large in the county. One of the nice things about this search is that you’ll get a map of the county with markers showing where sex offenders live. This is very good as far as it goes.
But how do you find out if a possible employee, boyfriend, neighbor or business associate has a criminal record? Unfortunately the only real way to do it is to pay a search firm to find out for you.
The good news is that these firms are extremely inexpensive to use and once you pay your fee, which is usually well less than $50, you’ll have access to all the records searches you desire, nationwide and even internationally. You’ll have this access for a period of time, typically one or two years.
Even with Google, searching a lot of public records is a no win effort. To find the company that provides more records than any other, follow this link: public police record search.
